The most credible market-size figures
Goldman Sachs Research estimates the creator economy grew from roughly $250 billion in 2023 toward a projected $480 billion by 2027, at a 10 to 20% compound annual growth rate, with around 50 million creators globally. Be aware that other, less rigorous sources cite wildly different figures, from under $200 billion to over $1 trillion by the early 2030s, largely because "creator economy" gets defined inconsistently across reports. Treat Goldman Sachs' figures as the more defensible anchor.
How many creators actually make real money
Only about 4% of creators currently earn $100,000 or more a year, according to the same Goldman Sachs research. Brand deals still make up roughly 70% of creator income industry-wide, underscoring how central sponsorship remains even as platforms add more native monetization options.
Income concentration is real and growing
Platform payment data from CreatorIQ shows the top 10% of creators earned 62% of all creator payments in 2025, up from 53% in 2023, and the top 1% alone captured 21%, up from 15%. This concentration is intensifying, not stabilizing.
What this means practically
The creator economy is large and growing, but income within it is heavily concentrated toward a small top tier. Diversifying income streams, and consistently showing up rather than chasing one viral moment, are the patterns most associated with moving out of the long tail.
